I have a sliding patio door. Was installed by the previous owner so have idea of the age and make etc. It's alway been a little stiff to slide but looking at the rollers I can see that they are gunked up with carpet fluff.

First question is...
1) what type of sliding door do I have? It opens by twisting the handle up which leavers the door out and away from the frame allowing it to be pushed open.

2) the problem... When closing (twisting the handle down) the door seems to be slightly out of alignment. The bottom corner of the door does not want to engage into frame. The top corner is fine, but the bottom left corner has to be slightly lifted and pushed at the same time.

The whole door mechanism seems to move freely without any juddering etc. It just won't engage into the frame correctly

Any help appreciated

Haha nice. It used to be that you needed to press gently with your foot in the bottom left corner to get it to close fully, but now you have to lift it slightly. Just wish I knew the make/type of the door!!

it sounds like the set i used to have in my house, the wheels were adjustable from the end of the door and there were some anti lift blocks screwed into the top frame if these were removed this allowed the sliding door to be lifted of the track and the wheels cleaned. hope this helps

Yes can see the white caps on either end of the wheel units. Will try giving them a clean but don't think that will solve the alignment issue.
Thanks though 😊

you should find a screw either end  to adjust the wheels up and down, this should enable you to align the door accurately with the locking plate!  saying that the doors could be totally different to the ones i had. good luck.

Both my mum and her neighbour have had this problem but they are big patio doors in bungalows (a whole wall basically). The problem with both was the frame buckling because of the weight of the glass and the fact they support the roof. Mum solved hers 5 years ago by replacing them with Everest ones which have been absolutely fine. Neighbour got someone in and I think they put some extra huge bolts into the lintl and base to try and pull the frame back into shape which worked to a point, but they're still a pig to open and close so they rarely bother.

If they slide well enough is it the latches? Some are much like  the ones on a conventional multipoint plaggy door.

Managed to get 5 mins to take a look at it tonight. Turns out the bottom channel that the door runs in has a "ridge" and the wheels are slotted so you can guess where this is going.... Both casters had jumped off the ridge meaning it was sitting lower than the frame.
As mentioned above, at each end of the casters are nylon blocks designed to stop to door being forced open. It looks like it's done this before in the past 2 of the screws have been rounded off by the previous owner, but managed to get it back on track and closing properly. Top bombing!
