Am I reading this right ???
a lot of people are having problems with DPF's blocking up
http://www.motester....val-and-the-mot
a DPF isn't required to pass the test - as long as the exhaust emissions are within limits ???

If originally a DPF is required to be seen fitted. Same as a CAT. if they were there originally they mudt pass a visual check.Am I reading this right ???

To quote from the MOT testers guide, "Reason for rejection - A catalytic converter or particulate filter missing where one was fitted as standard", updated Feb 2014.

This is for both Diesel and Petrol engines. But no dpf on a petrol of cause.

This
My car has nothing inside the dpf, the innards were smashed out. When the dpf was programmed out the dpf light comes on with all the other dash lights but then goes off.
I had no problem with the mot.
So you need to do the above if you want rid of the dpf, it depends on how many miles you do and the types of journey

looked into this with my dodgy old diesel
yes, if you remove the DPF entirely it SHOULD fail an MOT. If you remove the innards of the DPF and refit the carcase then unless the tester can tell it has no innards it may well pass an MOT if the ecu has been programmed to extinguish the warning light.
However if there are any subsequent engine management related issues then you have minimal chance of the diagnostic software accurately pinpointing the problem.

In that case, if i smash the innards out of my CAT, or buy one of those decat pipes that looks like a CAT will it pass an MOT if the emissions are OK?

Depends who's coded the light out and whether they've deleted all of the eml code or just those relating to the dpf

Yes, but the chances of it passing are minimal unless it's had a lot of time spent refining the idle and light load 2,500 - 3,000 rpm areas of the map

Remap your car after you get it deleted. Make sure they take into account the DPF delete and it will cause no issues, give you more power and torque and in some instances, better fuel economy. Been doing a lot of research into doing all this to my future purchase MK4 Golf Anniversary GTI.
A lot of DPFs are hidden under engine covers. Cant remove covers in an MOT test so you will be fine. But to be honest as long as the emissions is fine, they won't fail you for it. If they do, go to another MOT tester....
