Spritey - like Moke Spider my first thoughts would be ignition related.

What type of ignition coil do you have fitted?

And next time you start the motor and run it up, once the engine cuts out put your hand on the ignition coil to see how hot it is (carefully, they do sometimes get very hot...)

OK, would you be in a position to check that it has spark when it stops?

Have you got a points dissy then?  Maybe the elect module is playing up?  Swap the dissy (or re-fit the points) and try again.

Is the fuel feed pipe from the fuel pump to the carb close to the exhaust and vaporiseing the fuel in the tube?

It's not touching the exhaust but it's close with the position of the carb to the mechanical fuel pump

What year of car? What exhaust manifold is fitted?? You could try making a different pipe?

I've tried 2 coils and still the same and no heat from them when cut out ..
