I use a set of garderning gloves and push the fan belt so I can turn the engine using the fan blades.

What he said.......take the plugs out!

Sounds like you are nearly there with the project.
Bet you can't wait to drive it now.
Well done.

Are you sure that it's not just the old classic one where the rebound rubbers are shot to bits, so that when you jack the car up the driveshaft actually rubs off the bottom arm pin? This can make the wheel hard to turn, and the accompanying grinding sound makes it sound like there is something wrong!
Edit - just re-read that, deffo take plugs out especially if you are trying the jacking up method. I do mine with all wheels on the floor, and plugs in mind you, I put it in 4th gear and although it is hard to pull as it gets to the compression stroke, it is doable.

You should leave the ignition on when doing that if you'd like a good surprise.. ;)
Happened to a mate of mine once, luckily the car was cold and stalled..

If you have a limited slip diff then it would need both wheels off the ground.
