I just built a 998 with a 286cam and a 12g940 head on it. I'm trying to get it set up out of the car at the moment.

I can get it started, then it over revvs, and goes nutts! I set the timing up with my light gun, so i think i got that bit sorted.

My worry is the twin hs2's i got on it. I was told they where off a mini, but i just checked on the burlen site and i the tags on the float lid say they are off a mk2 950 spitfire :- The mark on the actual body of the carb says there hs6's - so i'll ignor that one.
The carbs have no link for a breather on them, but there is one on the manifold, which i connected to the one off the tappet cover. I've checked all the seals and they all seem good. No air leaks. On the fist carb there is a pipe going straight accross the top of the 'T' (if u you know what i mean) and on the 2nd carb, just the one pipe. The floaty things inside are not on metal strips, so i dunno how to adjust them either, but the look fine to be honest

Anyways, when i start the engine, as i said, it over revv's ans pisses out fuel from the first carb (and a little from the second) After stopping the engine, i opened the throttle and lifted the needle and all the assembly up and loads of white smoke came pouring out.

Any ideas???

oh, and any ideas how to reset the carbs, back to a standard setting, then i can adjust from there??

this might be of some help seeting up the carbs,

http://www.mintylamb...page=sutune.htm

also how old are the carbs, did you rebuild them. they could just be nacked and need a rebuild. but i don't know much on carbs mind. if their off a diffrent car the needle might be the problem. i think you may need the right needle. but its only an idea.

if their pissing fuel out the the float might be set wrong so give that a peek and don't forget to top the dashpot oil off.

any idea how?? theres no metal bit to bend??

Had another play, doesnt seem to be going nutts anymore, untill you revv it, then it wont stop. Also, when it idles, every so often it spits out a huge mist of fuel (outa both carbs)

from what i can see thats right. ther float pushes agenst that little metal bit which "should" close it off and stop fuel. i got one thats set up so its almost touches the top of the float chamber so that looks ok........hmmm.......don't really know then. have to wait for someone who smarter than me to come along. sorry man,

Nope, yep, dunno whats the correct angle??

Anyways, i think fingers crossed, touch wood, i mite have figured it out?? What happens to fuel when it goes off, anybody know??? because it been sitting in my garage since january, lol. So i figured it'd probly gone off, so i nicked some outa the lawnmower, and it seemed to run better.

Only had a chance to run it for a few sec's, because i got distracted. then when i came back i think i fried the starter solenoid (serves me right for starting the engine with a screwdriver)

Gonna go find a new starter tomorro, but in the meantime, please keep adding ur suggestions, just in case

Ta dan :-

The float bowls have to sit horizontally, and I think the carbs sit at 30 degrees?
