I should have done it 5 years ago, nothing on the car is original. Some times it's handy to have a speedo and its adding miles to the engine. When you're doing 80mph on the satnav and the speedo is reading 130mph+ its some what out.

What speedometer are you using, is it a standard mini one or something else...

Quite simply you can calibrate the speedo, or you can change the rate at which the cable spins, by changing the speedo drives in the gearbox.

If you look down at the bottom could be slightly obscured by the bezel there will be a 4 figure number this is the turns per mile give speedy cables a ring and give them diff wheel combo and they will tell you what the figure should be if its a lot out send it to them for calibration if not check your speedo drive pinion matches your diff

OK, so the speedo will be 1000tpm as that's what most off the shelf speedo's are...

Put a 5 tooth worm and 16 tooth pinion in and the speedo will be bob on..

Do as guess-works has advised and you will be as good as it gets. Having a speedo recalibrate will cost a lot more money for nothing

You can also change the worm drive in situ, but does require the removal of the engine mount and bracketry ( plus the radiator obviously )
