Welcome to the Forum from another Newbie and first time mini owner, if you do decide to buy a mini hope you're enjoy it as much as I am enjoying mine.
Key things with buying though, if you're not confident, take someone who knows minis with you. Obviously as with every car check it is mechanically good, but with a mini especially, check everywhere for rust and rot, look underneath the car if you can, check the sills the arches, pull up the carpet and check the floor. If it's in good nick the owner won't mind. I'm sure I'm telling you stuff you already know though so I'll shut up now
