OK has anybody applied for a road tax refund under the new system yet? You used to just fill out a V14, attach your tax disc to it & then send it off to DVLA, but what about now there aren't any tax discs anymore? Do I still need to fill out a form, or should I just get an automatic refund as soon as I SORN it?

As far as I know as soon as the DVLA are notified of the change ie ownership or SORN the DVLA automatically send the refund for any unused months back to you. Have heard that for once they are really efficient at the re funds.

Elf was quicker to respond than me.

I did this a couple of months back and got a cheque through in the post. I think it took around 10 days from memory. I wasn't convinced that it would actually work but it did, and for the amount I was expecting as well.

I'm really impressed by this. It's perfect for people like me who only tax their cars for certain months of the year. All online as well. Really not a fan of getting forms and posting stuff. Pain in the bootae.

I'm waiting for one now for a car I just gave to a mate. Hopefully it's just a cheque that comes through with the confirmation of transfer of ownership.
