I have brought 5 litres of cellulose flame red for my car and 2 litres of jet black for the roof and arches, my question is should I sand down to bare metal as the currant paint is of very bad quality, and also when painting onto bare metal what paint do I need? I have some high build grey primer, which I presume has to be mixed with thinners like the paint? and does anything have to go before the primer?

If current paint is bad then best bet is to remove it to prevent future problems, I would put a coat of epoxy onto bare metal, then your high build and top coats, epoxy is safe with charcoal mask

High build primer needs a key to adhere to and either etch primer or epoxy primer bonds to the steel and gives a key for other coats to adhere to. Epoxy is also resistant to water so for working at home when everything isn't done in a controlled booth and may have longer time between coats can be better than etch but is a little more expensive.

I bought this one, went on very well and had a good build so on my bonnet and doors I just flatted it with a guide coat and put the colour straight on

I think jawel do an epoxy primer as well, just I have used this exact one and found it good

I used the 1 litre to do both doors, bonnet, petrol tank and both subframes, so would think 3 or more litres, not sure if it's available in larger containers, I also hear lechler epoxy is good and that's available in 5 litre containers

This is a 2 pack product and you will need to use the appropriate breathing apparatus, just be careful.

If you look on msds for 2k epoxy it doesn't contain isocyanate and doesn't require airfed, it require an a2p2 mask
