I thought it would be about time to start a project thread since I've been on here a while now. I'll let the photos do the talking then fill in the gaps later on. It's been an ongoing project (in between many other projects!) for the last 12 years and this year The intention is to do a few rounds of the Service Hydraulic Speed championship.

Anyway here are a few pics, I'll post up spec and build pics up shortly.

A+ MG Metro block +20 1293cc
MED Race spec crank toughened cross drilled / back drilled wedged balanced
STR 930 camshaft
Steel rods
Steel lightened balanced flywheel
Stage 5 head with 37mm inlets and 31mm exhaust
1.5 roller rockers
Aldon red dizzy
MED vernier timing
Toothed belt drive system
Split 45 webers on Longman manifold
Jack knight SC box, JK SC drop gears, JK LSD with 3.9FD

It's all been lightened and balanced and is a pretty fast motor, although I'm currently sourcing parts for a new build 1380 or potentially a long stroke 1400+. I am tempted to go for either a crossflow 7 port or even a 16v conversion.

Nice build! very very similar to my plans, gunna be repainting mine this summer a similar colour.

You must really dislike money if thats your current engine and are planning an even bigger, more expensive engine!  ;D

Haha, you will be surprised how little you can build some of these engines for if you source the parts wisely and shop around etc. I built the current engine for a fraction of what it could have cost. ;) needless to say I don't tell her in doors how much it costs lol, although when I pop my clogs she'll sell it for a lot less! Lol

I get a buzz out of building my engines to be honest. you won't go wrong painting yours Island blue, I love the colour :)

My engine I am planning a 16valver engine is gunna total around £6k I am estimating. Not cheap but it will get the job done! As to colour, I am going a slightly unconventional route, painting in montana graffiti paint, comes out matte but I have found it will polish up if I fancy it.

Do you have any aims for motorsport with your car?

I am planning on entering a few rounds of the service hydraulic hill climb championship this year. My main competition car is a 1993 106 Rallye.

Cheers guys.

I love the mini more too but the 106 is an excellent car and really punches above its weight. Engine spec on it is:

Alloy block bored out to 76mm 1397cc IApel forged Pistons
Steel rods and long stroke XSI crank
Steel TUV flywheel and paddle clutch
Richard Longman baffled sump
Catcam 671 race cam
Richard Longman head with titanium valves
Jenvey 40mm throttle bodies
Gripper SC dog box with Gripper 4.3 FD and plate LSD

I'll try and find a video. :)

Fantastic! I want to build a hillclimber at some point soon, as much as I would like to do it to the mini I want it on the road as a daily for a few years and when I get the next project, Bmw 2002,  one will be built into a fast road daily and the other for motorsport.

Got the bug to compete from being part of a single seat team for the last couple of years, side lines are alright but I fancy being in the hot seat now!

I destroyed the 1st engine in Donington park so this is the revised engine.

This was around 2 years ago in Castle Combe, this was a bit of a testing day. Until a water hose cut it short! Lol
