Hey guys, 

 

Ive got a '77 mini 1000 with what I think has an 850 in it (I bought a proper botched one I think) And drums all round. 

 

Its got a standard manifold with an su carb, but I want to stick a Fletcher 3 inch on it, I know I need an LCB manifold and a new inlet, but from what I see all the inlets seem like they are for hif carbs? And they all seem Water heated and my current inlet/Exhaust isn't.

 

What do I need to do in order to fit the exhaust? Can I use a water inlet? Im so confused right now someone help!

a magic pipe would do the job , this fits from the existing manifold and joins on to you very oversized exhaust

There's not much point going to the expense of fitting a separate exhause and inlet manifolds if you're set in have a 3" exhaust. It'll make a lot of noise but will loose power so just go with a magic pipe on the standard down pipe.

Ah I see, thanks for that! But just out of curiosity If I was to fit an LCB would I have to change carbs? and find a way to allow water through the new inlet?

Your current inlet is heated by the exhaust. If you swap to an alloy inlet then yes ideally for a road car it will be heated but many people don't bother hooking it up. It's easy enough to do though. You don't want an LCB for a small bore engine though, you should fit a Cooper Freeflow instead. You won't need to change carb, there are inlets for all carbs. An 850 with a 3" exhaust will give a horrible driving experience incidentally but it's your car.

The best size exhaust for an 850 is a 1.625" internal diameter with a 3-into-1 tubular manifold.

With the power loss a 3" exhaust would give on an already less-than-powerful 850 the performance would be ghastly (think Citroen 2CV  ).

But, as said, it's your car, as Dan so rightly says.

A 3" Exhaust once fitted I'd put money on your next post being my car doesn't pull like it used to and there is a flat spot at ????rpm.
