The diameter of the hole would be approximately 1/4" larger than the diameter of the stud.

I finally got around to measuring the stud and wheel hole.

Wheel hole is ~14mm

wheel stud is  ~ 8mm

Wheel stud 8mm = 5/16"?   Std mini stud is 3/8" unf ! 14mm = 9/16" as near as makes little difference.

Yeah thanks, my calipers are in mm that's why i posted mm :proud:

That does come down to 1/4 inch tho so that means i need sleeved nuts?

What I am pointing out is you either have some very strange wheel studs, or you have measured them wrongly. 3/8" = 9.6 mm.

As pointed out, running the nuts up with an impact wrench probably grossly over stretched them. Electric one with no load setting adjustment? The torque is 42 ft/lbs and have never known anyone to break the studs properly torqued. Since you have probably tightened every wheel on the car with the impact wrench, buy 16 new studs and nuts and replace the lot and buy a torque wrench at the same time.

To cover the effects of over torqueing. I knew someone who changed the front wheel bearing on his Cooper S. He ended up putting an extra bearing spacer in the bearing, so he couldn't get rid of the play. In his attempts to tighten the bearing, he applied much force to the nut with the aid of a scaffolding pole. While driving along the road shortly afterwards, there was a loud bang and the end of the CV joint shot across the road.

You appear to need this type of nut .......( although you have the thin metal covers ).

The conical washer looking bit centres the nut in the hole......the studs will be a fair bit smaller than the holes....these nuts are the correct angle and centre everything up

Here is the covered ones

Hello everyone,

Quick update. Today i received my studs and nuts made a comparison picture for those who wanted to know what the old ones looked like. there was no code on the old ones OR the new ones.

They're all fitted to the car, still have some other stuff to do before i can go for a drive

minispares, the smaller studs had lines stamped on the top in a circular pattern like a Japanese army flag (best description i can think of)

The longer rear studs were blank on the top
