I have a friend in South Africa who has found a black 1983 hle 1275.

He says there were only 46 of these made. It is black and in very good condition.

He can ship it for me no problem but wondered if these cars are frowned upon here

as it was built in South Africa.

You won't be frowned upon. It's a mini, everybody loves them and it doesn't matter where they come from. It'll probably gain more interest if anything :).
