Hi peops, had a bit of a major one on the motorway and managed to get her home,it started on my 60 mile round trip, pulled in after 25 mile to fill up with petrol for some reason and saw oil dripping oh *******,lifted the bonnet and it was totally drenched it,I see it was coming out the cap,put some oil in and nursed it back to 20 mile then give it a good power washing and cling filmed round the cap cause I couldn't rember if they had seals, got back the last few miles and engine clean as a whistle😗compression test first I think wet and dry test,I'm hoping a breather was bloked

Yes that will be on my list aswell cheers, the engine is a 1293 286 cam stage 4 head, don't know anymore, it was at an engine specialist 6 months today on my birthday been checked from top to bottom and the head retorqed cause it had done 1200 mile running in,spent all my disabled savings on a really sweet and restored car now it might have to stay tucked away if it's going to cost lots to rectify, which does do my head in cause my dad back in the day used to lighten all the lads flywheels and Pistons in his lunch brake lol,we shall see what's up

With a 286 cam you will have been using very high revs as peak power is not until 6400 rpm. With those sort of revs the engine needs special pistons really and the more normal 21253 is not ideal. Most people with a 286 use either the top-grade Omega or Karl Schmitt pistons which will take the revs.

It might be a broken piston ring if the advance curve was not modified in the dizzy to suit the spec & revs.

Do a blow-by test by running at tickover and removing the oil filler cap to see if it is 'puffing' smoke out. That is a good sign of damaged pistons, broken rings or worn/scored bores.

Hi coopèr man, thanks for that, the engine was tuned and looked at by dave baskerville in Barnstable ,just done a compression test today, they were all the same at 80 psi and with a little oil in they went up 5psi across the lot this seems low to me but there all the same,I know it was just a hold on tester not a screw in one.any ideas

That is too low but I would get a screw in one and redo the test.
