Take clamp right out, clean to like new, oil the threads and wind the nuts up and down so they are finger tightenable. (if there is such a word!) Make sure manifold, exhaust is free of any previous jointing compound. Get assistant to hold exhaust flange up tight (you might want to apply paste to mating surfaces at this point)
Use scissor jack or chocks to hold the exhaust up tight.
Place the clamp temporarily for a dry assembly to see which orientation best suits you for access with spanner and 8th drive socket.
Remove and fill groove with paste and replace, tightening as much as possible by hand, making sure the clamp is sitting correctly....tighten.

Apply plasters to scratched wrists.

PS...much easier with bonnet removed

Make sure your fitting the clamp with the bracket to diff loose so the 2 surfaces mate with paste between. I have seen the cast cast manifold chipped where a prvious fitter has knocked the clamp off, so check for damage.

And make sure your engine stabilisers are in good condition, with little or no engine movement. This will knock the join out also
