Yes the 1098 engine is really difficult to get the correct curve, and the wrong one on the 1098 can be serious enough to do damage, Aldon for info have probably got the most data on dyno runs on the A series in the UK, if Aldon have recommended a yellow then I'd be inclined to try one.
Alternative ? well I'd not be using any of the one size fits all engines offered by the suppliers, and as yours is modified then your other options are the Electronic ones where you can select the maps if they have one for the 1098? or ditch the distributor and go down the ECU/Coil Pack route but the choice is do you want to keep it period and no ecu? then your back to the Aldon Yellow and The CSI Types

Indeed, both the 1100 and the 997 engines are fussy on dissy advance curves, especially if the CR is on the higher side.
Personally, I wouldn't recommend an off the shelf dissy, but running with a programable one, like the CSI, 123 or best of the bunch (at this stage) the Accuspark Stealth.
