Going to service my 998 in next couple weeks. Was wondering what people think about using engine flushes with the oil change. Got some wynnes engine flush but was thinking with minis am I about to open a can of worms (aka oil leaks everywhere!) as know that a lot of oil seals on a minis are prob stopped leaking by a build up of crud and varnish?

What's people's experiences? A good idea or not?

I would rather have to change a few seals than have an overheating engine due to clogged passages, and anyway it is very unlikely that a flush would mean you would need new seals anyway!!! if you did it would only be a few cheap gaskets

Unless your engine shows symptoms of possibly needed a flush, I'd suggest not flushing, it can cause problems.

The best flush to use is to re-fil with Diesel lube oil, run for ~200 km, drump, change filter, refill with what ever you normally use. This is way better than any flush in a bottle.

To expand a bit on the above, the arguments I have heard on this topic before were that if you do not use a flush every time you change your oil then when a flush is used it can dislodge gums, varnish, and other deposits that would otherwise stay put.  Those "chunks" of debris can plug small openings and cause problems.  On the other hand if you regularly flush, then these deposits don't have a chance to build up.

some call this stuff engine rot.
I've used it twice, in an 86 fiesta and a 96 imprezza, both times it made the bottom end very noisey after. That's just my experience, there are plenty of debates on forums about if they are good or bad.

. A garage i used to visit used engine flush, it made for very noisey engines afterwards!! We actually had to replace them... Very costly!
