Hi

From experience, which cam is better MG Metro or Kent 266?

I want power from idle (lets say 1000RPM) up to 5000 (max 5500-6000RPM). I need all around engine, not hill climb or rally or drag engine.

And I need info for 998 and 1275 engine because I will tune both!

If You have any other good cam, be free to tell.

Thanks a lot

They are almost identical and you will not notice the difference.

IMHO that pair of cams are the best ever produced for road going A-Series engines, be it in a Mini, an A-H Sprite, MG Midget, ADO16, etc.

Time the cam in accurately at 2 degrees advanced from manufacturer's recommended setting when fitting a new timing chain to allow for initial stretch.

Sorry, I would disagree here. The factory cam will be considerably more accurate. Only what I've found from experience.

Actually, in general, all the factory grinds were remarkably high quality.

Hmmm, I have used Kent cams in various cars over many years and their quality and accuracy is superb so I would agree with Cooperman. But have you looked at the Piper 270? Just a bit 'hotter' than the 266 but still very driveable.

I assume you can't get a new mg metro cam so they're going to be 20 years old and have a fair amount of wear?

This is just one checking sheet from a 266

Cam%20Checking%20Chart%202101133b_zps3w0

It falls well short of the advertised spec.

I have another one somewhere of a 276 (dual pattern grind) from the same grinder, only the Inlet and Exhaust durations were mixed up!

<Edit: I think AC Dodd of this forum also has similar experinces? >

Kent 500 is the same profile, I think.

I can  recommend the cam I have, a Swiftune SW05-07.  My car will pull from 1500rpm in top and peak torque at 4000rpm.

I've just found on a shelf under a liberal coating of dust a brand new, still sealed in the box Kent 266SK kit that I got many many years ago and never fit in my first mini.

I'd be grateful if anyone could advise if it would be suitable for installation in, and is there any gain to be had, if installed in my current (standard) 1992 1.3 spi Cooper?
