These are the ones you want, Viton is the mutt's nuts: http://www.minispare.../LJQ101160.aspx

Yeap, that's them, the brown ones.

Having just stripped my A+ 1275 engine I noticed there are oil seals on all valves (garter type). There seems to be only 4 included in 'modern' headgasket sets and I've seen on this forum mention that only 4 are needed, inlet, and that is how they left the factory. Can anyone explain why?

Bearing in mind I've not touched any sort of engine for 20+ years so I'm well out of touch.

Thanks in breathless anticipation.

There were no stem seals fitted to the exhaust valves because the theory is the exhaust gases are being pushed up so any oil seeping down will just be pushed up also. Whereas the inlet valve guides have a greater chance of passing oil due to the vacuum created when the engine is sucking air, oil is also drawn down the guides at the same time.

I would personally fit them on all the guides

Thanks, that seems to be the answer. I will probably still fit them to all valves as you said.

So they can sell the Gasket Sets cheaper.

As Craig89 has suggested, fit them to all Guides. I've found the later brown coloured ones longer lasting.

Personally, I wouldn't fit to the ex. valves. I had one stick open, have since removed from ex. valves with no smoke or anything untoward. Martin. (this is my opinion only !!)
