Hi;

I have a Austin Mini HLE 1000, it had a large steering wheel with a British Leyland Badge on it, two clocks and two round twist to open Air Vents at either end of the dash.

I need to do some repairs to the Flitch behind the dash, any ideas how to take out the trim without ruining it. Its shoddy but for now it will have to be re-used.

Thanks

1. Unscrew the plastic rings on the front of the vents and remove them.

2. withdraw the broad plastic tube that surrounds the vent

3. grab the vent itself and give it a twist to the left to un-hook it and remove

4. the trims should now be free t take out.

Good luck un-doing the screws that hold the plastic vent backing to the flitch. They are a nightmare so take your time to prevent them rounding off immediately

Ben.

Or if your replacing/repairing the vent areas of the flitches, just drill out the heads of the screws to save damaging the vents trying to remove ones that are stubborn/rusted solid.

And take it slow so the heat generated from drilling doesn't melt the plastic like i did on mine.  >_<

I've ended up using small penny washers on mine as well as just the screws to 'repair' a few of the now slightly melted holes.
