Hi all!

This is maybe a question that no one can help me with, but I have noticed that there are some weird things about my mini that do not meet the specifications that go with the car.

It is a 1995 Rover mini Sidewalk edition in kingfisher blue.

First thing is that the car should have an immobilizer. It has a red bulb in the dashboard, but it does not have an immobilizer unit whatsoever.

The second thing is that the car should have an internal hood latch, but it doesn't have that either!

Why not? In the sidewalk brochure it states both of these things as standard!

anyone have any ideas?

It nearly 20 years old, it's quite probable that previous owners have made modifications particularly with something like the immobiliser which may have broken down and been removed and bypassed in the past.

It probably did from standard but from your pictures it's had a few modifactions so The previous owners just removed them.

This is the way it was when I bought it. Almost every modification save for the exhaust and the wheel arches has been done by me. I can believe the immobilizer being taken out, but I was looking under the lower dash railing looking for any hints of an original hood latch, and I was not able to find anything. I believe there is a sort of metal bit that the latch connects to? If it was modified from an internal hood latch, could you think of any reasons of why to do that conversion?

The immobiliser was a 5AS which unless the ECU was changed or modified by someone like ATP would have been difficult to just remove. Also if it was modified it's unlikely that someone would have gone to the bother of changing the whole front loom so the pkugs would still be there (one white, one grey).
You could check the VIN using the info on MiniMania http://www.minimania...umbers__Part_II

I've seen SPi's with 3AS modules of a similar vintage.. so no button fob...

Can't remember if that's just those with a single plug ECU rather than the twin plug ECU.

According to the EPC, if you vin serial number is in the range 67378 to 103112 then it should have the single plug ECU.
