I recently got a service kit for my HS4 and reassembly went OK but I can't seem to refit the choke link that was on the waxstat to the new jet.

It seems like mine is missing the silver clip, circled here, that the old linkage would fasten to. When I;ve gone back to check the pics on the the site I noticed the service kits didn't show this particular connection. Is there a single piece to buy, or a way to make it work? I assume as long as the lever is connected all should be ok?

just as an added extra, what diameter is the fuel connector on the float? I can't find the details in sucarbs site.

Yeah its part of a conversion kit to convert from waxstat, you cant buy it individually from what i have found.  And i have looked pretty hard for months!  There seems to be two conversions however, the jet with the associated parts and the conversion kit.

The conversion kit is the cheaper option, but will be a little more complex to fit.

PS. What choke cams do you have as a matter of interest?

I am re-posting the picture below from a thread dating from 2013.

Did your carb originally have the WaxStat jet?  If so, it should have a linkage with a little ball end and then there is a u-shaped clip to hold the ball against the jet (or in your case... the conversion jet).  You can see the u-shaped clip in the right hand picture below.

I am sure you could improvise something if you are missing the clip.  Alternatively you could buy or make the conversion linkage shown in the Mini Spares link posted by Andy.  I don't think that Mini Spares linkage kit needs the z-shaped bracket shown on the conversion jet (your picture and the SU carb link Andy posted).  I think the Mini Spares linkage just goes through the screw hole in the "standard" replacement jet.

That does make a lot of sense, i didnt realise the "c" clip was also used on the fixed jet.  If you require the "c" clips, i have some spares lying around from when i converted 2 sets of twins from waxstat.  I do also have one of the conversion linkages left over from a used carb that was a "bits and pieces" carb.  They are of course well used!  Its really hard to find these small parts now, Burlen are good, but not for the small HS parts unless you have the part number - and their schematics are not great.

edit.  found the clips at Burlen

.....but you are welcome to my used ones if you want

The red jet shown in the SUCarb link above (and the picture I posted) is a conversion jet with the little sheet metal tab off the side.   Equipped with the sheet metal tab, those replace the WaxStat jet and use the ball end choke linkage and u-clip like the WaxStat jet uses.

If you have a regular red (or black) jet without the sheet metal tab, I believe the conversion linkage (Mini Spares link above) passes through the screw hole where the self tapping screw is shown on the conversion jet.  On early carbs the choke linkage is flat sheet metal that is easily bent and can bind.  I much prefer the ball end linkage used on the later WaxStat type carbs.  I have not used the Mini Spares conversion linkage but like the looks of it.

I have the ministered conversation kit. The u shaped piece passes through where the screw in the jet is. Which way around do the springs go on the side? I have mine built up and running but the jet sticks a lot and it looks as if a spring is 180 degrees out but with no instructions supplied, I don't know.
