went into my local shell garage and asked the to find out exactly is the octane

he found out and its 99, that's good because my car is probably 11 to 11.5 to 1 comp

so with the millers octane boost take to 101 -  102

the car didn't ping on the 99 but does sometimes run on a bit

dyno was ok on the 99

maybe of interest to some

Yup, quite a few super unleadeds contain ethanol now.

I 'think', Texaco are all right, and also Esso super unleaded.

There is a list somewhere on the internet, although it's getting a bit dated now.

Here's one link that shows who puts ethanol in what

http://www.groups.tr...nol-update.html

depends on your location in the country too stupidly.

I stupidly put tesco momentum in one time going from V power, noticed a difference in performance quite literally pulling away from the forecourt, both times in my Minis and diesel daily. Safe to safe only V power for me now..

If i use normal tesco unleaded it feels less responsive than momentum

But i havent tried branded super fuels because there arent any located on my route to work...im gonna try V power next fill up

I use Shell V Diesel in my Merc. Not only does it run better it also I have proved runs cleaner. I never use super market Diesel as that's the quickest way to knock your pump out.

Regular unleaded can contain up to 10% Ethanol. Shell guarantee that V-Power will contain 5% or less.

I'm not sure if they've fixed it for V-Power but the old Optimax was 99 RON when it left the refinery but lost octane like you can't imagine as it aged. By the time it got to the pump it was down to the 97 they advertised it at, then after a week it was down to being plain old 95 unleaded.

Ethanol can be corrosive, particularly for the rubber parts used on cars that weren't designed to run on it. I thought there were regulations requiring more and more to be used on environmental grounds, or is that just diesel?

Does anyone work in the fuel industry on here ? I would love to know if supermarket fuel is the same . I have heard its all from the same depots so its the same , but on the other hand i have heard its the same but has different additives added - at what point i do not know . All from so called experts or brothers cousins uncles best mate who works there etc .

I have heard people harping on about its a waste of money buying more expensive fuel so i would love a black and white answer.

All i know is my daily focus runs terrible on 95 , supermarket even worse , so much so it pinks and rattles . Shell 95 is better and optimax its great .
