That's an interesting one.

Is there a hole in the casting above the centre main bearing?

The non Mini ones were easily identified by the timing cover front plate.

Which you don't show.

But yes it is an A series block. Timing chain cover breather looks non Mini but again you don't show much.

I've seen that BL casting mark before and can't remember is significance. Possibly South Africa, Australia or Innocenti?

It's an earier one, not Australian (we didn't case 1275 blocks here), but I'm reasonably sure it's South African, happy to be corrected though.

this is just the block I picked up it does have a belt drive and its also +0.030thou....its not a SF block as I live on Jersey and I don't think aperson would import it back ......the block face is 9 stud but its just the 1275 ally plate that confuses me.....could it be early 1275GT block.

If it's an early 1275gt block there will be no cast hole underneath the center main bearing on the block. Flip it over and have a ganders, if it's solid it's an early GT block. By far the strongest block due to good material, no tappet chest holes or that hole under the center main

That is a block from an Authi - cast in Spain. It could be from a 1300 or Mini or Victoria; they were all much the same spec engine.

Does it look like it has ever had a UK style number tag on it? If not, as you look at the block from the front on the left towards the top there should be a small flat square section; there might be a number stamped in that area.

I have seen the 1275 plate before it was on my old AH sprite/mk1 midget.

Some of the early GT blocks had the 1275 plate on too, but in reality, it does not matter as it's not really the block which makes an engine, it's what is put into it and on it.

From what I can see it's got std A Series / GT rods so not going to be Inno or Cooper, you can just see the big counter balance big end cap on Pitcure 1.

Be satisfied that you've picked up an 1275 A series block for very little / no Money.
