Looking at some bucket seats for my car at the moment, have seen some on minispares which seam alright (£200 though.. :( ).

I am getting confused at the locking/no locking subframes that are sold by cobra, in my 1992 City E, the seats have a claw which bites a bar at the back of them, is this what they mean by locking subframe? which one will i need to buy?

Also might as well ask at the same time, if anyone has any bucket seats for sale in the area of Bradford i could well be interested!

Cheers for your help!

Do they mean that they lock and stop tilting? You need to tilt them to get in or out of the rear seat, so locking them would make sense in a safety way.

I fitted some to an MG Midget years ago and they didn't tilt-lock, but they did have the usual back-forward adjustment, etc.

Many Cobra seats are for competition where the requirement is for the seats to be bolted firmly to the floor with no tilting possible.

You need to be sure that you buy the seat sub-frame which allows the frame to utilise the locking bar fitted as standard to all Minis with tilting & locking seats.

Then make sure the seats you buy will bolt onto those frames as some Cobra seats will have side plate mountings, again to meet competition requirements.

You need the base mounted seat type.

I hope this helps.

Thank you for the help.

It says on the website "If your vehicle had a seat that locked to the floor it is an MOT requirement that you fit that type of fitting seat back in for safety requirements. This seat frame will allow you to fit the Cobra range of seats to your mini."

I think that means the catch?

Why not simply phone Mini Spares and ask them to supply what you need to mount the base-mounted seat of your choice, give them a card number and the seats will arrive next day if you order in the morning.

A 1992 mini has the locking type of seat subframe, its only the early minis that did not lock.
