As you may have noticed, my sig has changed, so indeed has my plan for the project!
Myself and Claire were round my mates house last night, and as some of you know, i am about as passionate about bikes as i am with minis. Now, in his back garden was another mates Yamaha R1, freshly thrown down the motorway and written off!
I didnt think about putting it in the mini untill a mate joked about it then Claire piped up saying 'Well you have always wanted one, why dont you put this in instead of the VTec?'
And so the plan is now a rear wheel drive, R1 powered mini, with removeable front. I will keep the dash i have and use the bike clocks. I will be getting a welder to try and do it all myself, although im sure some of you will be called upon at some time!

I just hope the bike's owner doed the decent thing and breaks the bike down and sell me the motor/loom/clocks!

Will update you soon!

Oh yeah, can someone lend me £5500? :)

I have discovered that both sills have been bodged a number of times before, so im gonna rip them out and fit new inner sills, outer sills and door steps on each side, plus the drivers side floor and the flitch panel, maybe the cross member too.
Does anyone know if you can get full mk1 rear panels? as the rear screen surround needs doing and there is a mega bodge running across the length under the boot, and i want to fit mk1 lights.

Finished off the chopping today. after finding umpteen layers of rust and various patches ive decided to fit new rear floors, inner and outer sills and door steps, along with the flitch and inner a panel on the drivers side. Also a new rear valence and rear panel.
With all this chopped out, will i need to somehow jig the shell to do all these, or will it be ok?

Hi, You should have done most of the repairs with the back end still in as this helps with holding it all together as when the back is now cut out you have no suport and if you then do the sils the shell will simply fold up!!!!!

Sorry!!!!
I nly replaced the outer sills and the door aperture moved so we had to re fitt he doors then do the sills to make sure they fit ok.

Cheers

May be easier to start with a better shell??? :D

As i will be keeping this mini for a long long time, i am contemplating a fibreglass shell so i dont have to rebuild it every 5 years, does anyone know where i can find one? and how much should i expect to pay?

Shouldn't need to replace it every 5 years if you look after it properly.... Mine is 12 years old now and not a spot of rust in sight.

Yes, this has been done. There's a guy with a yellow car running on 10" rims where I work who is planning on doing a kit very shortly. Problem is he keeps blowing the diff apparently. I've never actually met this guy, but I was discussing this car recently while at Southam mini's and it seems he's another ex grass-tracker. I'll have to look him up for some more info....
