I'm looking now for a set of steel wheels for my 25.
I've already got the covers but the car is wearing mini lights at the minute.
So the wheel nuts aren't right.
I see I need the ones with the washers built in, but are 10" the same as 12"?
Are late type steel wheels compatible withe early trim covers?
Thanks in advance.

One of the online parts catalogues would be the place to look. If you mean the similar looking 10" & 12" plastic covers, it seems likely as the washer has the same part number.

Thanks Hun, it was the wheel nuts really, the covers will be different. I didn't know if the later type steel wheel has an angled seat or not.

No, the flat washer wheel nuts for the 25 wheels are not the same as later nuts used in Rover alloys and lots of aftermarket wheels. There are lots of different wheel nut designs, and they are not interchangeable. You will have to take one of yours off to know for sure, as your wheels could be one of a few different designs, but it's likely your wheels use 60 degree tapered seat nuts, not flat washered ones.

I'm going to get rid of the mini lights and give the wheel nuts I have with them.
I have two of the old steel rims, the ones with no holes for the trim fitting.
My thinking is to get new of everything, it just that I'm four of the wheel nut covers short.

So I've bought a full set of an early clubman, 10inch trims, wheel nuts and covers. Super ebay.

It was the GAW116 that I couldn't get hold of, there's a trader that has them somewhere, just can't find out who it was/is.
So I bought the whole set from eBay just for the caps.

There's even a chance you can find wheel nuts with the right shape and thread and taper angle, but different socket sizes. Can be a bit annoying at times if you start mixing them up.

Tell me about it, the price of originality eh?

It'll be ok in the end.

Not all of the original steel wheels use the flat washered nuts either, I think that actually most of them used the radius seat ones. I think the flat washer type were almost exclusively used on early alloys. Check that whatever different wheels you have all have the same nut seats.

I need to get to the garage to check the trims I've got.
The two steel wheels I've got don't have the fixings for the small hub cap. The four riveted on fixings.
The holes simply aren't there, so I think these are ok.

So yes to make those trims fit using the special nuts you need to find steel wheels that all use the 60 degree taper seat. I think that you are describing some early ones among your mix which will probably use the radius nuts not the taper nuts. Obviously the flat washers in this case only hold on the trims, they are not the same as the flat washered nuts used with alloys where the washer actually secures the wheel. It's a bit of a minefield.

Tell me about it, it's not a problem at the minute, as its on a full set of mini lights.
