I brought some nos genuine AP calipers yesterday from eBay which had sat untouched since 1992. They still have there gold coloured protective coating on, however I'm not sure weather or not to paint them to protect them further?

Won't hurt. The gold looking finish is usually zinc pasification and will eventually rust.

It's a mini, not a nova. Red is chav unless it's on a proper set of brakes.

Use proper caliper paint too. If they are off the car clean then thoroughly, mask up and spray for best finish. Hammerite might work but doesn't look as good.

Besides red might not work with the car's colour ...

Christ dont use Hammerite! You can get caliper paint from Halfords, although it'll need about 3 - 4 coats to cover as it's quite thin.

Since time began, and novas, corsas, fiestas and barryboys were created. Why on earth would you want tiny brakes to stand out?

You can paint them with hammerite or brake calliper paint providing they are degreased and prepped first. But if you want to do it properly and for them to last, you need to have them powder coated.

+1 to that since i painted my engine red its been faster and i have been able to stop quicker

I have been using plastikote 3 pound project enamel from Wilcos comes in little pots and many many colours that you can also mix. Dries hard doesn't flake even when you do a crappy job of cleaning them up and doesn't fade either. Can't see £20 worth of halford spray looking any better from more than 1 ft away.

Okay, I'll paint them up to protect them! Although the caliper paint I have already is red.. Doh!
