Ok looking for some advice. I see there are previous topics on the subject but just wanted to clarify a few things.
My speedo stopped working so I disconnected the cable from both ends and the cable has failed/broken.
The clock end has the White push/click fitting and the gearbox end has the screw type fitting. On the gearbox end do I have to remove the drive from the gearbox to fit the new cable or can I simply just screw in the new cable as is? Not really clear how it locates to the drive. Does it simply push in as I tighten the screw? I found this picture online but still not certain. Any advice would be appreciated

The outer screws to that bit and the inner pokes through into a hole in the end of drive pinion. You can screw the outer on while the adapter is still on the gear box. Either way, turn & push the inner to get it seated before trying to fit the speedo end.

The thread on the cable is really fine and easy to get crossed, which is why it can be easier to fit it to the adapter, then fit the adapter back on.

Cheers that has made things a bit clearer. As mentioned I have removed the screw gearbox but am having a little trouble removing the what I now realise is the adapter even though I have removed the bolt which secures it. I will see how I go once I get my new cable delivered.

Got my cable sorted yesterday. Tried to do it firstly without removing the adapter plate and could not get the cable to engage correctly. Removed the adapter and gear and fitted the cable to both gearbox end and speedo. Initially my speedo did not work but as soon as I pushed my dashboard into the normal position there was sufficient slack in the cable. All good now!
