Dear All,

Does anybody know the offset of this wheel.?

My 5 x 10's (Maifrini Mille Miglia - library pic) fail the Belgium MOT, as they protrude by less that 1cm from the rear arches.

Just seen these ATS's for sale (cheap) on a belgium site, and am wondering if the 1cm could be cancelled out if the offset was different.?

Just a thought

Cheers

I've got a set, I can have a look over them tomorrow when i'm home to check the ET for you.

My friend does have some fitted, and they do poke out slightly, but i'm not sure if you'd consider it passable for your MOT.

Stolen his photo, but you can see there's still about 1cm of poke

Cheers!

As for the photo, I see you're archless. I have std. British Leyland Black plastic ones, and still the 5x10's are 1cm over!! Rear drums have built in spacer & the car was purchased with new rear subframe.

Can't understand that with arches, my 5x10's are still just slightly too wide.?

Will go and measure mine & compare with the ET of 15.

Oh, I thought you meant archless! 5x10 should easily fit under arches, even standard ones. I've got 10x5 on mine archless too, and they poke out about 1cm

I've got discs up front, but should give you a bit of a better idea. As Ross as said, 5x10 sits fine in standard arches so you should be fine with the ATS wheels

You sure your current wheels are definitely 5" wide?

I'm certain they're 10 x 5's - but will go and get one off. They're definately Mainfrini Miglia Mille, and I thought they're only available in 5".

Yes, exactly the same black arches. Will also measure rear drum.

Cheers for the photo of the ATS's in situ.

Do you have any rear drums without the spacer? That might be an option for you as long as that doesn't cause the tyres to rub on the rear shocks

Indeed, that would be a simple fix. weekend beckons, so on with the overalls!

As for 'geometry', would swapping with 'original' non-spaced drums have any adverse affect on the driving characteristics, save possibly rubbing on shocks, as you pointed out.?

cheers

It shouldn't be an issue as long as the total offset is similar.

Eg. Wheel offset of +46mm with a 25mm spacer gives you overall total offset of +21mm. That would be exactly the same geometry as running a wheel of offset +21 with no spacer.

You might need shorter studs though, depending on the setup you have now.

bear with me chaps. Kids got in the way, so nothin' doin' until friday.

Plan A: calculate diference between my spaced rear drums, and non-spaced drums. make up any difference with spacers (less 10mm) - may require different studs. Voila! Tyres in-line with arches.

Still, until I submit the measurements, I can't stop thinking about a fundamental issue. 5X10's with Leyland arches shouldn't be an issue!

watch this space......

So then, took the rear wheels off and:

The spaced rear drums are approximately 89/90mm overall in depth with the built-in spacer being about 21mm thick.

My 10" wheels have the following dimensions: from outside rim to face where bolt sits is about 10cm. From the inside rim to the face than sits on the drum is about 4,5cm. Rims are about 5mm.

And the overall distance between the two inside faces of the brake shields is 109cm.

It's a new(ish) subframe that come with the car, including new cones.

The wheels are about 1cm protruding from outside edge of black plastic Leyland arches.

Although 10 x 5's, are the figures suggesting that the offset is on the large side.? Would other 5 x 10's reduce the problem with (Belgium) MOT.?

4,5 x 10's would certainly get rid of the problem - but shelling out for a set is'nt high up on my list.

help as always is appreciated.

just stumbled upon an offset clculator:

A is half rim width (5" = 127mm) therefor 63.5mm

B is backspace of wheel (100mm)

C is B-A = 27mm (very approx)

so the offset of my 10" wheels are 27mm or about an inch in old money.  Large, small.? normal (shouldn't cause this over hang.?

cheers all!

When you measure offset, you need to measure the total width of the wheel, which is about an inch wider.

A = 76.2
B = 100
C = approx 25

Why don't you remove the drum entirely and have a look to see if it fits under the arches. If it doesn't fit then you'll have to get some new wheels (or arches)
