Hi is there any risk of shot blasting my shell myself as the shotblasting equipment isnt very expensive

The cheap equipment is not very good , as the tips wear out .  And the pot needs a huge amount of air so most compressors will be useless . Also even with a water trap they usually clog up all the time . 

 

 And it makes a hell of a mess and is noisy !

Yes, there is the possibility of warping panels due to heat build up.

Ahhh guess ill be throwing that idea away then haha suppose ill have to go with 80 grit paper and get sanding

I tried them years ago. As Bubblebobble has said, you really need a BIG compressor and it is very slow. Honestly, for the cost, mess, noise, cleanup stinging hands and chest, take it to someone and have them do it for you.

 

The DIY ones are pretty good for doing small parts say a up to the size of a pedal box, but rather than but a gun, buy it as a cabinet.

And if you're going to sand it you'll still need air tools (rotary or DA) as doing it by hand will take you a long.....long time. They aren't light on air requirements either.
