Right then, 1994 Mini Cooper SPI

on my way home, just pulled out a junction. went in to first, second and third gear with no problem. pressed the clutch in and pulled it out of third and then went to go to fourth and it woudnt go in. then went back to third and woudnt go in. pulled over and it wouldnt go in to any gear with the engine running. just suddenly stopped dissengaging the clutch. the pedal now goes straight to the floor however the push rod out of the slave cylinder does move slightly but no where near as much as it should. there is fluid in the master cylnder and the hose is a goodrich braided hose fittend not too long ago. My suspicions are the slave cylinder has failed but would like to know if any one has had a simiular problem.

cheers

Should be easy to see if the mechanism is pushing the throw out stop up against the "wok". If it is, it could be the throw out stop has wound itself in if it's loose.

Also check the clutch arm, especially if you're on a pre-verto clutch. The ball tips can break off, especially when they're either severely worn from age or if you use a very hard diaphragm spring, like a gray one. If the ball breaks off, the clutch won't move much or at all without any fault in the hydraulic system.

Otherwise check the master and the slave cylinder for leaks/wetness with brake fluid. If there is any, the corresponding cylinder will need servicing or replacement.

After some investigation I determined it was actually the clutch. Took the cover off and loads of bits of clutch fell out.

If that were the case.....would not the result be a hard pedal?  A pedal that will not push down......

( we're talking about the big nut on the end of the plunger....correct? )
