Did mine insitu. You just need to ensure you drill the hole straight and get all the swarf out.

As above, it can be done in place. Make sure you keep the drill bit and tap perpendicular to the spotface where the drain plug sits. After draining out as much oil as possible, you can pack the flutes of the drill bit and tap with grease to catch most of the swarf that will be created.

If you do one in place it would be insuranne to change the oil filter after a short run as any bits of alloy swarf wont get picked up on the magnetic plug

thanks for the replies guys!
Hopefully going to be coiling it at the weekend, ive got a second filter and 5ltrs of 20w/50 oil so I'll suck most of the alloy swarf out, flush that old oil through and then put the new oil in, run it for a 20 mins, drain it again, swap the filter and put in the good oil. may sound abit long winded but its a new engine! aha

I just covered the tap with grease wiped it out and fitted the OE brass over size plug.

Back in the day you could get an over size brass sump plug. No magnet though.
