Hi Guys,

I have a very early MKIII mini with the ignition switch still on the dash (More MKII than MKIII I believe), and the steering column is knackered. Trying to find a second hand one is very difficult.

Would anybody know the differences between the MKII and the MKIV steering column's? I've been told they are not interchangable, if this is the case I have a big problem as it renders the car undrivable.

Any suggestions (or if anybody has a MKII column for sale) would be gratefully recieved.

Many thanks,

James

I was told it was where the column meets he steering rack, the garage bodged it for the mot but they said it's not a permanent solution and needs replacing.

You can fit the whole column (inner and outer) from a later mini. There are a few bits that are a fiddle though. Mounting the indicator stalk is a pain, unless you use the new column's indicator stalk. Self cancelling mechanism is different too.

I would look for a good second hand inner column. I has to change mine. The splines had gone on it.
