OK, my Cooper is nearly finished on the reshell, engine runs, all painted and sealed, just the interior trim and fittings left to go. :D
Here's the problem, the Rover cooper had the antenna for the radio fitted into the passenger side wing and this has ALWAYS been a bad rust location as all the road crud gets lodged around the underside of the antenna fitting / hole in wing, and the aerial was always sticking and jamming open or closed due to corrosion. I'm not too keen on drilling a dirty great hole in my nice newly painted -rust free wing and waiting for the tin worm to return. :)

SO, what other antenna options exist?, a roof fitting is out of the question (too many problems, plus the head lining is allready in, and it would leave a bump in the lining from the coax cable) and a rear quater fitting just looks wrong on a mini. So now I'm stuck on what to do. :'(
I know there are aerials that can be fitted to the windscreen, but these are not good for reception (and not realy that nice looking). what other types / fittings / locations exist for a mini's aerial?

Do I just bite the bullet and drill into my new bodywork and hope for the best, or is ther an alterantive out there? What have other people done about radio aerials?

Help! :)

well i am going to get one of the electric ones that stick to the glass.

i think it will be more than good enough to pick up radio stations. plus it saves adding holes to your body work

If you really want the radio is it not possible to have a collapsing aerial in the head light panel to right/left of bonnet?

I think thats where my moms mayfair has it.

Or am I just being stupid?

may be being stupid here but couldnt you just put a standard whip type aerial along the front grille inside the engine bay, as long as its tucked right in you wouldnt see it and it would be fine for reception.

Hmmmm, I just did a Google search and found an MGB that was a concorse car, he had an amplified antenna fitted into the boot area with the tip of the antenna sticking out just infront of the folded soft top, it was totally stealth, he got good reception too.
That gives me an idea, I have plenty of space on the rear parcel shelf, an amplified windscreen antenna fitted along the bottom of the rear screen would work. :) I should be able to get it to work if I fix it across the parcel shelf board under the carpet, stealth style. :D

Anyone recomend a decent amplified windscreen antenna?

If it was'nt for the need to listen to the local traffic reports, I would'nt bother with the radio, but then I would also miss listening to "Richard from south shields" phoning Alan Robsons Night Owls (the guy is a total nutter with a probable case of Munchhousen Syndrome - he makes stuff up a LOT!) :)
