1994 Rover Mini Reving High On Start Up

I own a 1994 Rover Mini Mayfair. It's a 1275 Automatic.
I have just fitted twin su 1/4 carburettors to my mini and up on start up the engine revs really high and doesn't stop meaning I have to turn the car off.
I noticed the dash pots were empty so I filled them up and no joy and I've also tried adjusting the idling but still no joy either.
I'm thinking about getting a rebuild kit for the carburettors but not sure if this will fix the problem.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thankyou in advance.

That sounds like an inlet air leak. When fitting twin Su's sometimes the large balance pipe on the alloy manifold hits the centre exhaust pipe or the exhaust manifold flange and prevents the inlet manifold from fully seating and thus allows air in. This is a very common problem when fitting twin SU's with an LCB ex. manifold.
The other thing that can happen is if the exhaust manifold flanges are thicker than the inlet manifold flanges (often the case with after-market LCB's. In this case you make up some 'stepped' thick washers with the step equal to the measured difference between manifold flange thicknesses.

Unfortunately I still have the same problem. Don't want to have to take it to a garage for repairs as don't want to pay a bomb.
