Rollover Jig Height Clearance

Best Answer Stu. , 19 March 2015 - 05:10 PM

Hi Al,

No its no problem I'm glad to help :proud:

Ive just been out again and turned the shell so the roof edge is at the top. I was able to measure through the floorpan (as its not there  ) and this gave a vertical measurement of 1.950m from the floor. I'd allow at least another 50mm for headroom clearance though if I were you.

My shell wont spin under the door motor, but it clears when its just to one side so I can work with it like that, and can also move it out the garage and put it back in the other way so I can work on the other side too.

The total length of the jig including the castor beam is 4.430m on mine.

If you need anything else, or want some photos etc just let me know.

Hi,

Does anybody on here have or have used one of these?

http://www.rolloverjigs.com/

I need to know how much headroom is required as I will need to roll the mini under my up and over garage door mechanism which is a shade over 1.9m from the ground.

I've tried calling and emailing David using the contact details on his web site but can't get a reply.

Oh and if anybody has used the castors I would also like to know how much extra height they add as they would be very useful to me.

Cheers.

Al.

Hi Al,

To get mine in and out the garage I need to roll it upside down. Ive just measured it from garage floor to floor pan (upside down on the jig) at just under 1.600m. Thats with the castor jig on it and the A frame splayed at its maximum, so if you have 1.900m clearance you should be fine :proud:

Clearance in my garage is ....... ahem ........ a bit tight O_O  but it's all good and I can get around it just fine.

Fantastic, thanks Stu that's really useful, thanks for taking the time to measure up and send the photo's!

I don't suppose you know what clearance you have inside your garage where you have clearly not a lot of room between car and what I assume is your garage door motor do you? I'm curious to know if I can have it rotated on it's side under my mechanism.

The other thing that now comes to my mind is how long the base of the frame actually is, would I be pushing my luck a bit to ask you to measure that too?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't these jigs just bolt on at the front and the rear with nothing in the centre portion of the body to give support. I would have thought that it would be better to have a pole right through the centre which would maintain a rigid relationship between the front and rear bolt on sections, then if you started to cut out sills etc the body would not sag. I do like the way there is a 'local jig' at various pick up points.

Theres more than adequate solidity between the mounts through the shell itself. Cutting anything out which gives structural strength requires temporary bracing to take account of what you will be removing and to keep the shell solid. A pole through the car makes no difference to the jigs overall rigidity.

Cutting out a sill and relying on a jig pole to brace the shell would end in tears, and a knackered shell.

Brilliant thanks again for your help, I think I'll probably go for the jig without the casters as I've probably not enough wriggle room in my garage due to the door mechanism and the fact I wouldn't quite be able to push it back on the casters far enough to have it in the garage and fully turned on it's side. Still going to be easier than no jig at all!

Hi Stu,

Could I trouble you for a little more help please....

I did eventually order one of these along with the castors but it did not arrive complete, I'm missing the nuts and bolts for the castor kit (all of the bolts; for the castors to attach to the legs, for the bracing that runs between the legs at both front and back and for the long central bracing are missing).

It seems pretty clear to me what size bolts I need for the bracing but I'm not sure about the castors (certainly none of the other bolts in the kit are suitable), so I wondered if you knew what size those 8 bolts are, I assume that it uses nyloc nuts as per the other fastenings too?

I've tried calling, email and texting David but I am getting no response whatsoever, he did respond to an email I sent enquiring about lead times when I first ordered so I know he gets emails and I can see that my text has been delivered as it is an iMessage text, I also know the phone number is correct as I've called it but can't get an answer and his voicemail message says don't leave a message as he won't reply but to send a text or email instead. Extremely annoying given I've spent over £500 on this thing!

by the way I decided that there are too many red and grey ones out there so decided to paint mine yellow, regretting it though, it's consuming lots of paint, should have just whacked a couple of coats of zinc primer on it :-D
