Hi Everyone

I am currently in the middle of replacing the rear subby on my Mini. I've followed advice from fellow owners and a few online pages, and the workshop manual, but I came across a part that I hadn't seen or heard of in any of these. I've attached the photos to illustrate bellow. These "caps" (I'll call them Caps because I don't know what they are) sit in the housinge for the cone and trumpet and have endured remarkably well compared to the rest for the frame. I just need to know what they are, how and if they come off, if they do come off are they transferable, and if they don't come out, do I need ones to go in the new frame and what are they called?

Preemptive than yous!

I think they were added to later frames to stop crud getting in. Re use or not it is up to you. If you are using the key type hi-Los then you would need to remove them anyway.

They are bump stops. Added when the 12inch wheels were fitted to restrict full bump travel to prevent wheel rubbing on wheel arch lip.

...here is the part, but no longer available
http://www.minispare...ck to catalogue
The metal clip is 13H2176

Just swap them over. But note later subframes on Sportspack strengthened frames for 13 inch wheels do not have the hole.

What the factory claimed them to be, as the other guys have said, is a bump stop.

Nothing could be further from the truth!

They are in fact Trailing Arm Pin breakers, nothing more, nothing less.

Here's a pic of a Trailing Arm Pin that I caught in time

LOL that is just the result I would expect from a "Bump stop" there. Totally unsuitable.

Trailing Arm Pin = the shaft the radius arm rotates on, right?
