Hi,

Tried to fit fixed 1.5 neg camber brackets today, but failed. Comparing the brackets, the holes aren't right. The vertical face holes are in 20mm from the edge, whereas on the original they are 17mm in from the edge. As a result the edge of the bracket fouls on the subframe trunnion rubber mounts, where there is a lip that protrudes from it. The originals sit just behind it.

Also the innermost bottom hole is elongated left to right, whereas the original is elongated front to back. As a result, the hole doesn't line up with the location in the subframe.

Anyone else had this? they are minispares brackets. I suppose I could alter the holes to make them fit, but it would need quite an alteration - I would probably need to use large washers under the bolts -  and I would be concerned then that the new hole positions might mess with geometry back there?

Also, another question not specifically related to the minispares brackets - I guess this would happen with any fixed neg brackets - as the radius arm pin is further up towards the top, I found that I couldnt get my socket on to the top bolt as there isn't enough clearance between the bottom of the bolt and the top of the radius arm. The best I could get was to use a 1/4 inch drive socket set, but I worry that this wouldn't allow me to tighten the top bolt up enough. Any suggestions about that?

Thanks

Craig

Most brackets I've bought from a few different suppliers were much the same, holes not lining up, some out as much as half a hole. I think those from Huddersfield were about the closest.

What to do with them?  Mod the holes?  On reflection, I don't think this will cause any geometry issues - the bracket will be hard up against the radius arm,  and also on the vertical and angled faces it will be up against the subframe too.

I ended up slotting the holes to fit.

I just use standard ones and modify them you know then

they will fit. I wouldn't use fixed neg camber brackets  it don't mean you will get  it

both my wheels were about the same on the back pos camber

I just filed the bracket upwards both the same about  3/8"

and its given me touch of camber each side

been like it for 4 years

I never use the adjustable brackets.

Just file the hole in the end of the bracket to give the correct camber, ideally zero to -0.5 degrees, then ensure the track is correct. The rear wheels MUST toe-in by between 1mm and 2 mm for optimum road-holding and good handling. If the toe-in is too much use shims behind the vertical face of the bracket to get it correct.

Then, when this is achieved, weld a large washer onto the end of the bracket and it is all set for a total cost of a few pence and the knowledge that it will stay correct.

1.5 degrees negative is far too much neg. for the rear on a road car.
