Thought it was time I joined this forum after seeing a nice display stand at the showdown on Sunday. I've already got a build diary running the 16vmini forum so if you want to see the progress up until now then have a look at that -

from now on i'll post pics of progress on here too.
Hope you all enjoy

Welcome!
Wow, that is quite a project. very intersting, good luck with it.
Just out of interest, how did you learn to weld? Did you have lessons or are you self taught?

looks great, keep thinking mine is under engineered when ever i see other peoples projects like yours.
also like the idea of using the MGF subframe, something in might convert to at a later date, looks like a better suspention set up with the spings, plus the rear disk's.

isnt the MGF subby based on a K series one anyway? must make much easier to fit/engineer

yup, the mgTF frame is a modified MGF frame, which is a modified metro frame. Not sure what you mean about that making it easier to fit? I think my roll cage and mounts are massively overengineered - certainly look that way compared to the Z cars stuff. But i'd rather err on the side of caution than have it falling apart as soon as i put the power down

sorry didnt makee it that clear i meant because it is rear engined and the right subby for the engine. rather than taking a mini front suby and noddng that!!

ahhh i got you. Well, it is a front subframe from an mgtf, so strictly speaking, its not supposed to have an engine in it. Just needed an extra mount welded on and a few bits grinded off. I used the front subframe as that allows me to use 13" wheels, whereas i would have needed 14's if i'd used the rear subframe

That my friend, is impressive.
Did you do a degree in engineering or something?
Really is spot on, please please keep updating, looks like it could be super.
Also like your trailer mudguards being used as sh*t shields!

Funny you should ask, im doing a masters in mechanical engineering at Warwick Uni. And before that I was doing an engineering apprenticeship in prototype testing department at Land Rover. I can't claim the glory for the mudguards, one of the guys from 16vmini forum suggested that one - i just stole the idea Cheers for all your comments, its nice to hear peoples thoughts. With a bit of luck you might get to see her in not too many years at shows, maybe
