Hi guys,

Got a little problem that started 2 weeks ago, dont drive it that much :). If you leave here for a day or so, and start her up drive away with her no problem. No dragging. But if you use the brake pedal a few times, maybe only twice, she starts to get stuck one. To the point where she doesnt want to move. Leave her for a few hours and shes good again ?
Any ideas where to look ? She's got a yellow tag master cillinder. Minispares 7,5 brake kit.
Wich is as good as new. Bought it the last group buy. And went to the blguim mot with it.
Any ideas ?

I had an issue on my wife's car when they lock up try lifting the foot pedal up with your foot if it releases I think there's an issue with the master cylinder I replaced the wife's and all is fine.

Almost certainly Master Cylinder.

There was a thread recently about this;-

It could be that the MC is not fully returning and may need shimming or the seals have swelled up.

Rebuild kits dont cost the earth. Will keep you guys updated :)

I'd also clean the calipers up, get rid of all the brake dust etc.

it could be the front flexible hoses are old, they swell and act as a one way valve.

+1 to madaboutcherry's comments.

If you did not replace the flex lines when you rebuilt the calipers, do so now.  As crazy as it seems, an old hose can look perfectly fine on the outside and be collapsed "inward" closing its bore.  I experienced this first-hand when I bought my car as a project.

Ill have a look when the weather gets better :) if it ever does :)

And try a rebuild kit for the master

I had the same problem after not being able to drive it for months... It was the master cylinder in the end though I found out the long way replacing calipers and hoses etc

Hi guys, some new findings while looking at these,

When the car is cold/ left for a while. You have a bit of play in the pedal after a few pumps on the brake the play gets smaller to almost non existant.

if you u do the top nut on left hand side of the compensator valve you see the pressure releasing and the brakes coming unstuck.
If you do it with the right hand side one you dont have this pressure release.

If im correct that line goes to the front brakes ?

Will be trying to get the parts for the master cillinder overhaul next week.

I had a situation like that years ago with 1972 Toyota Corolla after rebuilding the master cylinder with after market parts. This was not happening before the rebuild. I took it apart a couple of times and never figured out what was wrong. A new master cylinder took care of the issue.

Hmmm, its a strange situtaion,

Will start with a rebuild kit.

Master cillinder is only 5 years old but was left standing for a few years without fluid in the system.

Is there gasket or plate between the master cylinder and the body? If it is missing, the cylinder will be in wrong position relative to pedal/piston, and this happens.
