So, I posted up the rattle I have in the tranfer case last week.
I didn't get a definite answer to what the rattle will be.
so rather than changing the clutch release bearing with the engine in situ then getting it all back together and finding it's the idler gear bearing, I am going to just whip the engine out and do the lot.

Now, the block is a+ metro but the clutch etc is pre verto.
I really want to get the engine out, job done in a day so need to order all the bits.
The clutch release bearing is self explanatory and I'll need to order the pre verto type, but does anyone know which idler gear bearings I'm likely to need.
Is there any way to tell from the transfer case what ones I'll need.

And here's the video of the rattle again.

I would not bank on doing it in a day, because you may find you need to be replacing the transfer and gearbox case if the idler has chewed into them, so short of having a complete engine ready to drop in to replace it, you will not know what parts you need until it's on the floor/bench in front of you.

You need to work out what gearbox you have. What's the casting number on the gearbox (behind oil filter). This will tell you if it's A+ or not.

I have read that this could be the case, fingers crossed eh!

Now why didn't I think of that, a+ it is then. Cheers bud

Kinda on a similar note as Guess Works, I'll just say, if it has a rattle from the idler, it may or may not be the bearing, it could be as suggested, the casing having being chewed, or it may simply be that the Idler Gear needs to be correctly shimmed.

As Swift General has suggested, have a look at the Gearbox Casting No. it should guide you to what Drop Gears and Bearings you have in there. Those in the DAM4818, DAM2886 and DAM5626 use the TUK100320 Bearing. The only caveat I'll put on this is if it has been previously converted to the earlier set up as adapters are readily available these days.

If the Gearbox is All Syncho but not in those category about, it will use the 13H7848. If it is one of these, be sure the bearings you buy are Caged types, some I've found are full compliment (more so the earlier ones again) and not suitable for this application.
