Son's 1990 Racing Green 998 is at it again!
This month's tantrum is that mostly, it won't turn over, just getting a light click from the starter relay under the bonnet. Occasionally it starts after 2-3 attempts
I recently had the steering column out to ease the stiffness after replacing the steering rack and inner column (turned out to be the new nylon bottom bearing/bushing too tight).
I initially thought that the ignition switch block connector wasn't connected fully but I checked it and it was on as tight as it would go.
I then thought either starter solonoid or ignition switch.
So I dug out my test lead and probed the starter end first - no power.
Checked the wiring diagram and pulled the connector off the starter relay and probed the White/red lead - power!!!
Came to the conclusion that the relay was duff.
Luckily enough, recently, I fitted a double 12v socket in the car and fitted a 40amp relay to the side of the brake servo bracket.
Unplugged the wires from it and fitted the plug from the starter relay and hey presto, the car started on the 6 or 7 times we tried it.
My question is, what is the amp rating of the original starter relay?
I cannot read the original as it is rusty brown in colour.

If it has 4 normal 6.5mm Lucar spade terminals then it will be a 40 amp. If it has the 9.0mm wide on two of the 4 it's a 70 amp.
