Decided I'd have a go at this, the videos and guides on YouTube make it look easy!

So I've got two old steering wheels and this is where I am so far...

Any advice welcomed!

Looks like you're missing some wood to me ;)

Seriously though, looks like you're doing a great job to me! Quite a cool idea and item to make yourself!

Well I only just got the steering wheels this evening! So I'd like to think I'm making good progress!

The videos on YouTube make it look real easy, but I have a feeling in practice it might be slightly harder!

Doubt I'll make any progress this weekend as I'm away

All going well though I will start making them for people!

I think you have already done this, but it is vital that the wheel has a full circle of metal, probably aluminium, onto which the wood is fitted.

In the '60's there were some wood-rim steering wheels which had just the spokes in metal and the entire rim was wood. A friend had on in his 1971 'S' rally car, he crashed on the Tulip Rally and the wheel broke with one of the aluminium spokes sticking into his body. He was hospitalised for a few days and was lucky it didn't stick into any vital organs.

Hope you don't mind my mentioning this.

Yeah :) both wheels have full metal rings, I wouldn't trust a fully wooden one!

Hoping to make some progress on this at the weekend, get a router rig built up or something.
