"Cars that Rock with Brian Johnson is a 6-part series which follows the AC/DC frontman and self-confessed petrol head on a journey of discovery into some of Europe’s most iconic car brands."

That is pretty cool that he got the jumpsuits and helmets all done. I was just thinking how much they might go for as a collection, and Brian said quarter of a million - I was thinking probably around the 200k mark or so, but given the right couple of buyers, they could easily reach more.

I remember reading about the guy buying the box of plates, and I think the guy is a lot younger than I imagined he would be actually.

Why are the worth 200 / 250K ?, it's three MK2 Minis, dressed up to look like MK1's and fitted with 3 number plates that were first issued in 2003, there's very little (probably nothing) that was shown in the original film on them, a nice collection and well done to the owner for putting them together, if sold as a collection I'd say 60 to 70K tops

Great cars. The guy who owns them is a nice chap. We were parked opposite him at a show, we chatted for ages and he let me sit in the red one and hold the gold!!! ;D

The box of bits and three number plates were worth every penny. The journey of building three iconic cars and meeting some famous people along the way doesn't happen that often restoring an old Mini. He mentioned Chris Evans offered him a 6 figure sum!

How the three Minis rocked up to an Italian Job Show at Saltburn in July 2012...

The AA recovery truck doesn't have the same appeal as a Harrington Legionnaire!

I'm not knocking what he has done, just the way the media likes to make sure the facts don't get in the way of a good story, this mysterious box of parts that gets mentioned, it doesn't matter what it contained (I don't know if it existed or not) it wouldn't be enough to give the cars any more claim to being the original cars, they are very nice replicas that the owner has spent a lot of time and effort on to get the 3 nicest cars he can that can legally display the (not issued in period) plates that are fitted to the cars in the films, and fair play to him for doing it.

The problem will come after they are sold one day (and if he does sell them I hope he gets as much as he can for them) when the second or 3rd owner suddendly 'forgets' the original details of how the cars were built and they get listed with a major auction house as 'the 3 cars from the Italian Job', and the story that the are the film cars gets perpetuated every time they are refered to.

I've seen many cars that were no more than boxes of bits, or paperwork only that were built up by people who had a genuine interest in them end up becoming the actual car that did X Y or Z film / race / rally in the 1960's once they have been sold a couple of times, sometimes the original car has come to light and people have had to fight to get their cars identities back, and I should imagine that's not fun with the money involved these days

But as stated on the Mk1 Forum many things in the media are not totally factual in detail but not worth really getting too worked up about.....and to be fair he does say he only bought paperwork, number plates and some rusty old bits. Their appearance at shows and in the wider media does bring the legend of the Mini's in the Italian Job alive for the general public, whatever us as 'anoraks' on the subject might know or think.....so good luck to the owner with his not significant investment in their very accurate re-creation.

I'm not worked up at all, in fact I've not even commented on the MK1 thread, I'm just explaining my thoughts on why I (personally) don't think that £250K is a realistic figure for them :-), there again I'm sure that there are plenty of people out there that think it's crazy to pay £25 to 30K for a MK1 S

£250k sounds a lot but is nothing compared to the probable £1m tag that will no doubt be attached to the orange Lambo Miura which has just resurfaced in the latest issue of Octane magazine, there's strong evidence that it is the actual Miura driven across the Alps in the opening scene of the film. Rod Stewart's 1971 Miura SV is currently for sale at around the £1m mark!

And there's the difference, an original screen used car from the film is always going to have more value, (once they prove it beyond doubt)

If these were the original cars (Minis) I would say £300K plus would be a realistic figure, I'm sure the owner has great fun with them and gets to meet all sorts of interesting people, you can't put a price on that :-)

offer, they still lent them three Ferrari Dinos for the Mafia to drive in the film.
