Hi all.

My mother in law is after another car to replace her Diesel Xsara and she has only two stipulations and that is that it must be Diesel and it must be a 5 door saloon.

I have found a Carina 2.0TD with a full MOT for £375.

I just wanted to know if anyone has owned one and if they are worth having?

My Granddad used to have a Corolla Saloon about 15 years ago and the person he sold it to back then still has it now and it is still going well so i expect build quality is good.

Also, is there anything to look out for on them?

Cheers for any advice anyone can give.

Thanks

Ben

I had a quick squint on eBay and most normal parts seem to be there.

It is a concern though as the Diesel Carina's seem few and far between.

And why does she want an oil burner? The island is the size of a postage stamp

God knows mate.

All she said is she doesn't want to go back to a petrol car after having a Diesel that does 55 MPG.

I think she is thinking too much about her previous cars, a 1.8 Mundano Auto and a Mk3 Golf 1.6. Both were terrible on petrol.

I suggested that she could get something like an Astra G 1.4 petrol for around £500 nowadays but she turned her nose up..

My diesel mondeo auto wasn't all that good on fuel.

Does she actually get 55mpg out of the xsara? What's wrong with it? Is it rotten?

All day long mate, thats it's only saving grace.

It is rotten underneath at the back. o could easily fix it but then it needs a rear axle and probably a clutch

I don't actually know if the Carina would even be as good as the Xsara on Derv anyway?
