Morning all,

I've brought a new LCB and Middle pipe from MiniSpares to go with my Mini Sport RC40 knockoff. I've mocked it all up off the car and it seems to all slot together just fine.

LCB: http://www.minispare...t/C-AEG364.aspx

Middle Pipe: http://www.minispare...e/RC40-002.aspx

However when fitting it to the car the LCB seems to point slightly upwards in the tunnel making it difficult to fit the middle pipe without it fouling the gear selector or the tunnel depending on what way the middle pipe is fitted. It does appear that my LCB Y piece is bent slightly upwards towards the tunnel; is this normal? I've never owned a Maniflow item to compare it to. Whats the correct way around to fit the middle pipe?

Pictures because I know you all love them

What condition are your engine mounts and tiebar mount in?

Really good; all of the steady bushes were just changed before attempting this job and the mounts were new this time last year.

Do you have the correct top engine steady bar fitted. The 1275 bar is a different length to the 998 etc. This would tilt the engine and make the LCB exhaust 'kick up' where the Y piece fits. Just a thought.

Only reason I know this is that I've just rebuilt my 1275 engine to go back into my Mini City (998) and found a second steady bar lurking under the back seat. Curiosity made me look on Mini Spares website and found the reason why I had 2. Stuck with the 998 one.

1275s and 998s only have two different bars after 1990, early bars are all the same.

It's a 93' Carb 1275 British Open Classic Dan, as far as I'm aware it should be the correct bar. Is there any way of identifying them? It was fine with a LCB last year, but it was changed because it was leaking (poor quality Mini Sport item).

Really what I want to know is if the Maniflow Y piece has that bend in the end as you can see in the third picture above, if it doesn't then it's a fault with the Y Piece.

The different length tie bar was to enable the entire engine to be moved around 1/2" forward on the post-'90 cars.

My Mini is an '89 but the engine is a '92 which would explain why the 1275 bar for this engine is no good (too long). Engine mountings are in the original. I'm using the 21A1109 http://www.minispare...|Back to search

This is the one for 1275 which is too long for me 21A1817 http://www.minispare...ic/21A1817.aspx

Morning all,

Thinking about it, this is a 93' car with a 1275 from factory. The LCB is pointing up slightly; would that not mean that the bar is too long?....

@nicklouse Do you have any side shots of it?

I had another go at it last night and it just seems too close for comfort to me; take a look and see what you all think and if I have everything the correct way around and fitted correctly. I'm aware there are no clamps or rear section, just mocking up for the minute.

Pipe pointing up after the LCB with the middle pipe twisted to bring it back down again.

Damn close...

IMAG0573.jpg

Apologies for all the mess...

I think your selector mount is around the wrong way. I can't work-out from your pic which is the front of the car and which is the rear but mine was touching like that so I swapped it around and problem solved.

Looking over the parts diagrams your probably right, I wouldn't have even thought of it myself. The only way is to try it, I'll give it a go this evening.

I'm trying to figure out where you mean it's close. There's at least 10-12mm between the exhaust and selector unit, that is fine.

Looks think the rod change bracket is correct to me.

Here is my 15 year old Maniflow Y piece.
