If you're interested, this is how I did it:
First of all I drilled the centre of the spring retaining cap from the inside with a 5mm drill bit then tapped it to 6mm.

3 downloadsAfter a thorough clean up I screwed a 6mm screw from the inside, a copper washer on the outside followed by three 6mm nuts (one to lock the screw in place after adjustment and two to lock together to turn the screw).

6 downloadsMy freshly built engine was showing over 100 psi when cranking to get oil pressure the other day. My plan is to go back to the plunger type instead of a ball and use this to adjust it if necessary.
Hope this is okay (if not please tell me before I trash my engine).
