tonight i had a spare half hour so i thought i would attempt to separate the pre verto flywheel from the crank. i got some good pressure on the tool and all of a sudden i heard a bang. i thought it was off but one of the bolts had came flying out. looks like i have pulled the threads off the air born bolt.

so a few questions..

what are the chances i have stripped the thread inside the flywheel?

what size UNF thread is the bolt?

any ideas on how to improvise or do i need to buy a new puller set?

First things first take a good bolt and screw it into the hole where the bolt pulled out as you need to determine if the flywheel thread is good before going further.

If it is ok then new bolts can be got from a bolt shop.

Stating the obvious you have removed the washers you should have....

The offset washer that is used to align the flywheel and crank.

If you have stripped a bolt then you need a fine pick to clean the threads out BEFORE You try to put another bolt in. Otherwise the thread left in there will cause even more problems and you will wither strip the thread in the flywheel or jam the new bolt in solid. Running a tap down it if you have one wouldn't go amiss.

If you just need some bolts which are 'up to the job' then I can provide a set of 3/8 UNF HT Steel cap heads for the job.

These are the ones which are normally available with my heavy duty flywheel puller, for use with other pullers you may need a thick washer for the cap head.

Cheers for the advice. I tapped it out and used one of the metric bolts that came with the kit. It came off with no problems. I had pistons 1 and 4 tdc too.
