Hi i have a 998 pretty much stock mini and it feels slow and sluggish off the line and with general acceleration.

Any ideas as to what this could be?

And how to improve it?

Thanks!

Basic things first. Service it, plugs, points ( if fitted) air filter, oil and oil filter and fuel filter if fitted. Check the carb dash pot oil level is correct as well. Once fine and everything gapped correctly check the timing.

If it's still sluggish after that then further checks like tappet gaps, checking the carb is opening fully and correctly. Do a compression test as well.

Depending on the year it may have the tall 2.95 final drive fitted.

For getting off the line smartish a 3.44 final drive would help, but won't be so relaxed when cruising at speed and fuel consumption may also increase.

3.44? It needs a 3.76 to be sporting :-)

Have you checked that the timing is advancing with RPM? Seized counterweights(cam on driveshaft in dissy) will do this!
